There’s something truly rare about his comedy in that he can express rage in his work without attacking specific people (or peoples). There’s an earnestness in his art that comes through.
My buddy HooveR pointed me at this frank and open discussion on the Mental Illness Happy Hour podcast where Tompkins talks about the various obstacles he had to overcome in order to find that earnestness in his work. I wish more entertainers who share their work online would be as thoughtful. Very interesting listening.
